Romi Mayes and The Temporarily Employed: The Living Room Sessions VOLUME ONE
Style:
Friendly Folk
Sounds Like:
A backporch jam with a bottle of wine, a shared pack of smokes and a tape
recorder rolling.
Pointed Comments:
Romi Mayes is the kind of gal who likes to spread the love around. So, on
her delightful debut disc, the singer-songwriter makes plenty of room for
friends from The D.Rangers and Duhks, who join in on these informal, rootsy
recordings. Despite (or perhaps due to) the loose arrangements and laid back
approach on these eight cuts, however, the simple charm of Mayes' melodies
and the transfixing beauty of her torchy twang command the centre stage.
Standout:
The zippy bluegrass opener Styx and BTO kicks the party off right,
while the tear-in-your-beer closer Drink Until Four is the perfect
nightcap.
