Romi Mayes "Sweet Somethin Steady"

Unbelievable, so much talent around that Cold Canada: especially in the Americana scene we see a lot of Canadians these days. Looks like there is more Americana coming from Canada then from the States!
Singer Romi Mayes has been around for a couple of years now and is known as one of the hardest working musicians in Canada. The Americana Romi makes is powerful, leaning towards country blues. You can almost taste the bourbon, while being wrapped around the finger and voice of Romi.
A voice which breaks hearts and is pure and sincere.
Gurf Morlix himself flew over from Texas (US) to Winnipeg to produce this cd. You can hear this; he puts a little extra to each songs, but still they are Romi's songs: good songs, every one of them. Especially the slower songs benefit from Morlix interferings; for instance the beautiful 'Let me Run' in which the backing vocals make the song even more impressive. But Romi also can ROCK; as been proved in 'How I Roll' and 'The Other Dame'.

Ongelofelijk, zoveel talent als er in het koude Canada blijkt rond te lopen. Vooral in de Americana sector zijn de Canadezen ruim vertegenwoordigd. Het lijkt bijna alsof er meer Americana uit Canada dan uit Amerika komt. Zangeres Romi Mayes draait al wat jaartjes mee, en staat bekend als de hardst werkende muzikant in Canada. De Americana die Romi maakt is van de stevige soort, en leunt soms tegen de country blues aan. Je proeft de bourbon bijna, terwijl je wordt ingepakt door de stem van Romi. Een stem die harten breekt, en waarbij de echtheid tastbaar is. Niemand minder dan Gurf Morlix vloog van Texas naar Winnipeg om deze cd te produceren. Dat hoor je, hij voegt iets extra's toe aan de nummers, die toch Romi's nummers blijven, want het zijn stuk voor stuk sterke liedjes. Vooral de langzame nummers profiteren ervan, zoals het prachtige Let Me Run, waarbij de backing niet in de weg zit maar de kracht van het lied juist versterkt. Maar Romi kan ook rocken, wat ze bewijst in How I Roll en The Other Dame.
